As modern schools and colleges M&E design becomes ever more complex to maximise energy efficiency and enhance the learning environment, the need for a structured commissioning plan, execution and certification is becoming ever more critical.CML have carried out the complete range of services – commissioning, management, consulting and record documentation on a wide range of education facilities. Key sector-specific elements we focus upon in the development and execution of the commissioning plan include :-
  • Specific performance considerations – Ensuring the commissioning design review and plan takes into account the particular requirements of the facility – for example performance testing of heating, lighting and control systems to take into account particular occupational timing requirements of the school.
  • Working with the head teacher / principal – Particularly for existing working establishments where additional works are being undertaken, we would ensure a relationship is developed with the Head or Principal to ensure the operational needs of the facility are not compromised by the commissioning and proving process.
  • FM team training and user training – Ensuring that all record documentation and training is provided at least two levels. Firstly liasing with the FM team at an early stage to ensure that any existing Estates PPM or asset systems are integrated with the new facility – and that comprehensive FM level training is provided during commissioning. Secondly ensuring that users are trained in the operation of direct interfacing elements such as fire alarm and security systems at an appropriate level, complete with simple plain English user guides.
